If you thought you were in the middle of the Mediterranean when you arrive at Caribbea Bay, you’d be forgiven. The Sardinian architecture of Caribbea Bay in Zimbabwe, together with the lapping shores of Lake Kariba, makes you feel as if you are visiting a fishing village on the Mediterranean coastline - not a resort on the largest man-made water body in Southern Africa!

Caribbea Bay can accommodate guests in 83 rooms of varying sizes. There are spacious suites ideal for larger families, smaller Casita rooms (with a bunk bed for the children and a double bed or two twin beds for adults), as well as executive rooms. Most of the rooms at Caribbea Bay have balconies. The rooms of the Caribbea Bay are painted in a warm Mediterranean colours and the interior decorating reflects the Caribbean. All rooms are en-suite, have air-conditioning and are equipped with overhead fan, a desk, hairdryer, telephone, digital satellite TV, safety deposit box and tea/coffee-making facilities.

You will not definitely not go hungry on your visit to Caribbea Bay. There are restaurants, one being a poolside venue offering light meals and snacks during the day, catering for the culinary needs of guests. The Terrace Patio at the Caribbea Bay serves three a la carte meals per day. Don’t miss their famous Kariba Bream. Liquid refreshments can be found at the Casino Bar, Jacana Bar, Round Bar and Service Bar. The Casino Bar is located in the downstairs casino, while the Jacana Bar overlooks Lake Kariba. The Round Bar is situated in the pool area. The Service Bar forms part of the Terrace Patio Restaurant and is perfect for a pre-dinner cocktail or nightcap. After sunset, visit Caribbea Bay’s casino and try your hand at the tables with Black Jack and Roulette and many other games.

Other facilities at Caribbea Bay include a curio shop, car hire, babysitting services, 24-hour room service, same day laundry service, packed lunches for excursions, and information about tourist attractions in the area.

Caribbea Bay offers a range of water sports, including water skiing, canoeing and even water polo. Junior visitors are kept occupied with two swimming pools, an outdoor play area, Sup tube Waterslide and monkey bars. Tennis courts are in close range. If game viewing interests you, the staff at Caribbea Bay will arrange guided game drives into the nearby Kariba Matusadona National Park.

A short drive from Caribbea Bay visitors are given the opportunity to learn more about the culture of the local Tonga people, at the Kariba Village. There is also a crocodile farm where guests can take a good (safe) look at these ancient creatures. The wall of the Kariba Dam is another worthwhile attraction. When you’re on the viewing platform, you get the feel for the sheer magnitude of the lake between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

A must-do while staying at Caribbea Bay is a sunset cruise on Lake Kariba. The red sun sinking away in the west is an experience to behold. Watch out for the famous green flash just before the sun sets, peculiar to the sunsets at Kariba.

Conference facilities - comprising one larger venue and two smaller rooms - are also provided at Caribbea Bay. Catering is done from the adjoining kitchen and all conferencing facilities at Caribbea Bay are fully air-conditioned. The standard conference equipment at Caribbea Bay in Zimbabwe include flip charts, projectors, TV, VCR/DVD, white boards and message boards. The staff of Caribbea Bay will do their best to accommodate you with any other equipment you may need.

This is within walking distance of the waterfall itself. In Hwange National Park theHwange Safari Lodge is our flagship hotel. However if you prefer more safari style accommodation you can stay at Sikumi Tree Lodge. They offer excellent accommodation and safaris through this game park.

You might decide to include Botswana in your Kariba holiday. Beit Bridge is a difficult border to cross and you can expect long delays. However if you drive through Botswana to Caribbea Bay you will need to overnight in Francistown in Botswana. Then the Thapama Hotel in the centre of the CBD might be your answer.

A good idea might be to visit the Okavango Delta after your visit to Kariba. This might be particularly true if you are intersted in fresh water fishing. Drotsky's Cabins and her sister lodges are famous amongst birders and fishermen. If you spend a few days in one of these lodges it might just be the perfect end to a fabulous holiday in Caribbea Bay at Kariba. While Drosky Cabins is in the north of the Okavango Delta, Rileys Hotel is on the banks of the Thamalakane River in Maun on the southern point of the delta.

Although the north-eastern tip of Nambia borders on Zimbabwe the largest part of the country is at least two days drive from Kariba. If you plan to do Namibia and Kariba on a combination tour spend two nights at Etosha Lodge near the Etosha National Park. Their accommodation is as good as that of Caribbea Bay. Make your next visit Alte Brucke in Swakopmund which you can reach in a single day from Etosha Lodge. However, from Swakopmund it will take you less than a day Sossusvlei Lodge at Sesriem where you can see the world's highest sand dunes while staying in a luxury lodge. From Swakopmund it will take you another day to reach the beautiful Giant's Playground and Quivertree Forest. Here you will most likely stay in self-catering accommodation at the Quivertree Forest Rest Camp. If you don't want to prepare your own meals, there will be nothing to worry about. You can have your meals in the local restaurant. The Windhoek international airport is about 40 km east of the capital. If you plan to depart from there you can choose yourWindhoek accommodation here..
